DUMBO, BROOKLYN

Almondine Bakery

The French bakery two minutes from the bridges — buy the almond croissant, eat it on the waterfront.

Almondine is DUMBO's French bakery, founded by a pastry chef with serious fine-dining credentials, and it has kept the neighborhood in proper baguettes and croissants since the early 2000s — long before the surrounding blocks filled with galleries and strollers. The almond croissant is the namesake argument; the sandwiches on house bread are the local lunch.

Its real gift is location: two minutes from the Brooklyn Bridge Park waterfront. The established DUMBO ritual is a pastry and coffee from Almondine carried down to the rocks at Pebble Beach, where the two bridges frame Manhattan and the croissant flakes go to the gulls.

Editor’s tip

Take the almond croissant to the water at Pebble Beach — the bench views of both bridges are the bakery's unofficial seating.
